Micro weather technology company, Climacell, announced that it secured $45 million in a Series B round led by San Diego-based Clearvision Ventures.

Participating investors in the round included Ford Smart Mobility, Envision Ventures and existing investors Canaan, Fontinalis Partners, JetBlue Technology Ventures, and Square Peg Capital. The round brings the company's total funding to $65 million.

The company was started by Israeli Air Force pilots Shimon Elkabetz and Rei Goffer after having eerie near-death experiences due to weather-related events. You can read BostInno's profile on Climacell here.

ClimaCell provides high-definition weather maps in realtime, and claims that its street-level granularity is two times better than any other weather data providers. The company does this by integrating traditional sources of data like satellites and radar with proprietary data from wireless networks. "We want to be the Google of weather forecasts," Elkabetz said.

The company will use the funds from this round to expand its scientific research and build better models for prediction. To this end, it plans to hire more data scientists and environmental scientists. ClimaCell will focus on new B2B products for industries like aviation, energy, insurance, autonomous vehicles and drones. It's also working on a B2C weather-app that will be released early next year. "It's going to be the world's most accurate weather app," Elkabetz said.

ClimaCell's clients include JetBlue, Delta, Via, and Autodesk and the company plans to build its sales team in the coming year.
