Venture capital funding flowing to startups began to drop in 2022, and that trend continued into 2023.
Nationally, early-stage venture capital funding hit a record-high of $87.5 billion in 2021, according to data from Pitchbook and the National Venture Capital Association. That was up from $45.1 billion in 2020. The numbers have only been going down since, with companies raising $70.3 billion in 2022 and $30.1 billion as of the end of September in 2023.
Despite a cooling funding environment, some Massachusetts tech startups were able to secure large early-stage funding rounds this year.
