These 28 Boston Startups Raised More Than $418M in September

After Boston startup funding took a little bit of a vacation in August, it came back in full force in September, reaching similar levels of financing seen in July at over $418 million.

Unlike July, however, more startups raised money in September, with only a handful raising giant rounds, like Indigo's $156 million, Threat Stack's $45 million, Aras' $40 million and Drift's $32 million.

Here are the 28 startups that raised more than $418 million in September:

• Analytical Space, a satellite communications services startup, raised $3.5 million in seed funding. The Engine and Space Angels led the round. The list of other investors includes NXT Ventures, Flybridge Capital Partners, Shasta Ventures, Yard Ventures, Dream Incubator and Dorm Room Fund.

• Aras, an Andover-based provider of product lifecycle management software, raised $40 million in an investment round led by Silver Lake Kraftwerk, with participation from GE Ventures.

• Baseload Renewables, a renewable energy storage startup backed by The Engine, raised a $2 million round, according to a Form D.

• BetterLesson, an edtech startup, raised $5.4 million out of a $14 million equity offering, according to a Form D.

• Censio, a startup at the intersection of cybsersecurity and healthcare, raised a $2 million equity round, according to a Form D. The company's CEO is listed as Ed Gaudet, who was most recently a CMO at iBoss Cybersecurity and a longtime executive at Imprivata.

• CustomMade, a custom jewelry ecommerce startup, raised $200,000 out of a $750,000 equity round, according to a Form D.

• Cygilant, a Boston cybersecurity startup formerly known as EiQ Networks, raised a $7 million round led by Arrowroot Capital.

• Drift, the startup from former HubSpot execs David Cancel and Elias Torres, raised a $32 million Series B that included Sequoia and HubSpot as new investors, as well as existing investors CRV and General Catalyst.

• Enevo received $12 million in its latest funding round, led by Lifeline Ventures and existing international investors.

• EverTrue, a startup that aims to improve fundraising efforts for educational institutions, secured $6 million in additional funding led by University Ventures, with participation from existing investor Bain Capital Ventures.

• HealthWiz, an HBS-born healthcare startup, raised $110,000 out of a $1.5 million offering, according to a Form D.

• Humatics closed an $18 million Series A funding round with participation from Boston-area investors Fontinalis Partners, Tectonic Ventures and Analog Devices co-founder Ray Stata, as well as Lockheed Martin Ventures, Airbus Ventures and Presidio Ventures.

• Indigo announced the first closing of $156 million in its Series D financing, doubling the company’s total capital raised to over $300 million. Since the latest round now has Indigo valued at $1.4B, according to a company spokesperson.

• iSee, an artificial intelligence startup backed by The Engine, raised a $2.7 million round, according to a Form D.

• Jobcase, a Boston social media platform focused on job placement for blue-collar workers, raised a $7 million Series A round led by Savano Capital Partners.

• Luminopia, a startup using virtual reality to treat "lazy eye," has disclosed new funding through two Form Ds. The first filing shows that it raised $3.6 million in one offering, with the second showing $1.2 million for another round.

• ManufactOn raised a Series A round that included Autodesk as an investor, BBJ reported.

• Nasuni, a cloud data storage company, landed a $38 million growth equity investment led by a Goldman Sachs fund, Xconomy reported.

• Ori, a Boston-based architectural robotics furniture company, closed a $6 million Series A Funding round led by San Francisco-based Khosla Ventures.  

• Qeepsake, a text messaging service that lets parents collect memories about their babies, raised almost $878,000 in an equity offering, according to a Form D.

• Rekener, a BizOps software startup led by Ramp co-founder Alex Laats, raised a second seed round of $1.75 million from existing investors Pillar, Accomplice and Founder Collective, as well as angel investors. The startup previously raised $3.2 million.

• Seventh Sense Biosystems, which is developing a push-button blood collection device, raised $2.5 million in an equity offering, according to Form D. The target goal is $10 million.

• Smart Lunches, a Boston startup focused on providing healthy meals for children, raised almost $6.3 million in an equity offering, according to a Form D.

• Solo.io, which was founded by former Dell EMC executive Idit Levine, raised $2.5 million out of a $3 million equity offering, according to a Form D.

• Threat Stack, a cybersecurity startup focusing on threat intelligence in the cloud, raised a $45 million Series C led by F-Prime Capital Partners, with participation from Eight Roads Ventures, Scale Venture Partners, .406 Ventures and Accomplice.

• ViralGains, a video advertising journey platform, secured a total of $13.5 million in Series B equity and debt funding. The sum includes $10 million in equity capital from new investors First Analysis and Origin Ventures and existing venture investors, including Stage 1 Ventures, Pallasite Ventures and LaunchCapital.

• WeSpire, which provides an employee engagement platform, raised $1.1 million in a debt offering, according to a Form D. The target was $1.2 million.

• Wevo, an artificial intelligence and crowdsourcing tech startup, raised a $1.6 million seed round from Will Graylin Frank Moss, Tom Rutledge, Udi Mokady and other investors.
