Pillar (Boston)

  • Amount: Looking to raise $100 million for its first fund.
  • Details: Pillar is a new VC firm launched by former North Bridge partner Jamie Goldstein, who was also a former president of the New England Venture Capital Association. The firm filed a Form D with the SEC Thursday morning that it's looking to raise $100 million for its first fund. While little is still know about the firm yet, Goldstein has been writing about his thoughts on investing on Medium, questioning the standard practice of taking "preferred" shares in companies—which gives investors special privileges in the event of a sale of future funding round. "We put ourselves on opposite sides of table from our entrepreneurs right from the beginning,” he told us in March.

Threat Stack (Boston)

The startup, which is led by Brian Ahern, plans to use the funds to double its headcount with an expansion in its sales, marketing and engineering teams, as well as moving into a new Boston headquarters in the coming months. Ariel Tseitlin, a partner at Scale and former Netflix director of cloud solutions, is joining the startup's board as part of the round. Total funding is now at $26 million.
