EnergySage Adds $1.5M for Solar Power Comparison-Shopping

A Boston startup that says it’s using the Web to boost adoption of solar power systems has just gotten a boost of its own.

EnergySage, which offers an online solar power marketplace that helps consumers and businesses to comparison shop, has added $1.5 million in funding led by Launchpad Venture Group of Boston.

The startup plans to use the funding to increase its sales and marketing and expand its partnerships. EnergySage currently operates in 30 states and is aiming to reach all 50 states by the end of the year.

The company’s site has worked to provide all of the necessary information about solar power installations in one place. That enables users to “quickly research and compare turnkey solar energy systems, explore financing options and obtain multiple price quotes from more than 250 high-quality, pre-screened solar installers,” according to EnergySage.

According to EnergySage CEO Vikram Aggarwal:

The solar industry is growing, but its not meeting its full potential because solar is a complicated topic and a serious investment, and people haven’t had easy access to the data and unbiased information they need to truly evaluate all of their options.

Which, of course, is where EnergySage comes in, Aggarwal said.

Other investors in the new round included The New York Angels and the Clean Energy Venture Group. Gail Greenwald of Launchpad has joined the company’s board of directors in conjunction with the new funding. EnergySage has now raised $4 million in funding since its founding in 2010.
