These 37 Techstars Boston Alumni Have Raised at Least $1M [List]

Last week, we learned that the Techstars Boston 2011 class has become the best-funded cohort of any Techstars session (with a $6 million round for Help Scout putting the class over the top). Now, the local branch of the accelerator program can also claim the best-funded Techstars alum, with a new $35 million round for Localytics bringing the company to $60 million raised to date.

All of which got me thinking that it might be worth taking a quick look at where things stand, funding-wise, with a broader set of the alumni companies from Techstars Boston's eight sessions so far. And so, below I've included the 37 startup graduates of the Techstars Boston program that have raised $1 million in funding or more and are still active as independent companies (i.e., haven't been acquired or failed).

Side note: Acquisitions have included Techstars Boston 2011 grad GrabCAD, which had raised $13.6 million in funding and was acquired by Stratasys for about $100 million last year.

Anyway, a few takeaways from the funding list. As you'd expect, there's a disproportionate number of companies on this list from the 2011 class (eight). Five of the 10 best-funded alumni are from the 2011 session, but the top two are from other classes—Boston-based Localytics (inaugural 2009 class) and Synack (2013 class), a cybersecurity startup that has moved to California since Techstars. With the help of Synack—along with three other startups that rank in the top 15 on this list—the 2013 class ranks as the second best-funded Techstars Boston session, according to Techstars stats.

All in all, this gives a look at the funding progress for some of the most interesting startups—particularly ones launched by first-time founders—to come out of the Boston area in recent years.

Click the company name to see our latest coverage on the company. (Funding amounts via Techstars and my own research.) And stay tuned for our coverage of the next Techstars Boston session, which begins June 4.
