Trio, whose CEO is an MIT-trained aerospace engineer, on Wednesday debuted a new iOS app that aims to let users create "mashups of everything." The startup also said it has raised an undisclosed amount of funding from investors including Techstars Boston managing director Semyon Dukach and former LucasFilm COO David Anderman.
CEO/co-founder Misha Leybovich, who now lives in San Francisco, holds a dual Master's degree from MIT in aerospace engineering and technology & policy. Trio's co-founder/CTO, Clay Garrett, is a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology and lives in Atlanta.
In an email, Leybovich described Trio as an app that "helps you be funny and creative by making mashup videos out of other people's content, and has real potential to be the next Instagram."
More specifically, Leybovich said in the email, "Trio makes it easy to remix other people’s (friends, celebs, brands) assets (Instagrams, Vines, GIFs, iTunes) into awesome mashups, putting the world of popular media at your fingertips."
"This lets you be funny and creative anytime, so you can look cool even if you’re not always doing cool activities. And all the assets are linked to their sources (just like Pinterest does), so it’s great for original content owners."
