CloudBees Raises $23.5M Series D Round From Existing Investors

Back in November, BostInno discovered via Twitter that CloudBees had quietly moved its headquarters from Woburn to Los Altos, California (though it still has some workers in the Boston area).

Now, just months later, the former Boston startup, has raised a $23.5 million Series D round. The funding round, which included all existing investors, was led by Lightspeed Venture Partners, with Matrix Partners, Verizon Ventures and Blue Cloud Ventures all participating. Following earlier rounds of $4 million, $10.5 million and $10.8 million, this new funding brings the total CloudBees has raised to date to just below $50 million since it was founded in 2010.

Sacha Labourey, founder and chief executive officer of CloudBees, revealed in a release that this new round will be used to fund investments in its Jenkins-based solutions, as well as support its plans to release new products over the next year.

"This investment in CloudBees tops a year of continuous growth and acceleration, fueled by the adoption of continuous delivery as companies in all markets realize that software is eating the world," said Sacha Labourey, founder and chief executive officer of CloudBees, in a news release. "We will use the additional capital to serve the growing demand for Jenkins-based solutions worldwide, to continue to capture market share and to further cement our position as the continuous delivery leader."

CloudBees was previously known as a Java-centric platform-as-a-service for developers to build, test and run their code. Then, founder and CEO Sacha Labourey announced last March that it was shifting its focus to the continuous delivery market, which enables devs to build and deploy their code whenever it’s ready as opposed to being forced to adhered to fixed release cycles. By the end of the year, CloudBees had shut down its PaaS and was solely working on supporting Jenkins, an open-source tool that allows developers to test and integrate code with a working system while it’s running. As of 2014, the brands subscribed to CloudBees’ enterprise offerings include Intuit, Discover Financial Services, EMC, Fidelity, The Federal Reserve, Hyatt Hotels, Disney, PG&E, Verizon, Nordstrom, Cisco and T-Mobile.
