A few months after spinning out of developer tools startup Gizmox, Cambridge's Reddo Mobility has raised $4.25 million to develop and commercialize its software for bringing virtualized Windows desktop applications to mobile.
The funding is the first for Reddo since it was created through the splitting up of Gizmox, a company that had raised $18 million from investors including Atlas Venture and Citrix.
Atlas and Citrix have both returned as investors in the new Reddo Mobility round, which also included a "new strategic partner" that wasn't named.
Reddo's CEO is John Vigeant, who formerly headed application performance management startup Tracelytics up through its acquisition by Boston's AppNeta, another vendor in the app performance space, in 2012.
Board members at Reddo include Atlas partner Chris Lynch, who'd also served on the board at Gizmox. In a news release, Lynch said Reddo changes the typical model for large companies to achieve mobility, by making it so that their mobility strategy isn't dictated entirely by the availability of software developers.
The nitty gritty
Reddo works by linking a Windows Desktop application interface to a virtual user interface that's geared toward mobile device use.
Companies use Reddo to "mobile-ize" their business-specific apps with less time, money and risk than traditional mobile app development would require—no coding or scripting is needed, according to the company.
