Cambridge artificial intelligence specialist Nara Logics has added $6 million to expand its business of building software that can make recommendations the way a person would.
The money includes funding from a venture capital investor for the first time—.406 Ventures of Boston. Also taking part were previous investors; the company had raised $7 million previously from backers including investment advisory firm Account Management LLC of Boston.
Founded in 2010, Nara has developed technology that tries to mimic how the human brain thinks—providing the most relevant information and responses to customers. Applications so far have included a search engine (at nara.me) and mobile app for restaurant and hotel recommendations.
Larry Begley of .406 will join Nara's board in conjunction with the new funding, while MIT neuroscience professor Mriganka Sur will join the company's advisory board.
Last month, Nara named Blackbaud executive Jana Eggers to be its new president.
