One Babson Alum Wants to Turn Your Beer Koozie Into a Speaker

Babson alumnus Jansen White wants to turn your beer koozie into a speaker.

The idea ignited one night White was sitting around a campfire with friends. His eyes locked on a buddy's beer koozie, and he imagined incorporating speakers into the insulating sleeve.

"Bam," White told Babson. "The idea for our first product DUBSTEIN was born."

And now you can buy the modern marvel on Kickstarter.

The DUBSTEIN features a BPA-free, dishwasher safe insert for your drink of choice, whether a hot coffee or the refreshingly cool seasonal darling, Narragansett Del's Shandy. Simply pour the liquid in, or remove the insert and put a bottle or can in its place. The DUBSTEIN can then be wirelessly synced via Bluetooth to your smartphone, MP3 player, tablet or computer. Hit play on the top of the handle, and turn up the tunes.

The DUBSTEIN promises high quality stereo sound, a rechargeable battery with eight hours' worth of playtime and a speakerphone that takes calls.

The product took two years of iterating and 20 prototypes to get to market, but is finally available on Kickstarter for an early bird price of $129. Or, for $2,000, you can receive a "DUB-Day," which includes a scenic sightseeing flight with White over downtown Toronto, where the company is based; a DUBSTEIN handed over in-person; and a steakhouse dinner that includes up to $250 toward "meat n' bevvies." You just need to get yourself to Canada.

White's overarching company is dubbed DUBGEAR, and has a portable stereo speaker users can hang, wrap or sling "from almost anywhere, using an integrated rubber strap," coming in the next year. For now, White will focus on his current Kickstarter, which has raised nearly $9,000 of its $75,000 goal.

How can you deny a product that "combines two of life's greatest pastimes: music and drink," that's also described as a "rocket ship of FUN?"
