Sonian Scores Another $8M in Series C to Bolster Scale

Cloud-powered emailing archiving company Sonian announced on Monday that it has secured $8 million in Series C, bringing the funding round to $21.6 million. The sum came from existing investors OpenView Venture Partners, Summer Hill Venture Partners and Prism VentureWorks.

The new funds will go towards developing the company's DiscoverStor platform, which will be formally unveiled in Q1 and extends Sonian’s cardinal cloud reference architecture to new file types and adds advanced analytics.

The company first announced its Series C in spring of 2012, raising $13.6 million from the aforementioned investors. Missing from the round, however, was Amazon, who contributed to the company's $9 million Series B in December 2010, and who Sonian claims remains a key partner. Since its inception in 2007, the "archiving as a service" company has raised $37.6 million in total.

“Sonian is well poised to continue its remarkable growth trajectory, thanks to our innovative approach and long-standing expertise moving corporate data to a secure cloud archive and illuminating that data with fast and accurate search,” said Jeff Dickerson, CEO of Sonian, in the firm's release.

We have a lofty goal to take all human-generated data, from emails and documents to CAD drawings and beyond, and make it searchable – and therefore actionable – within a cloud architecture. The continued support from our investment and reseller partners will hasten our ability to deliver on this vision and create the world’s first true dedicated information discovery cloud.

Based out of Dedham, Mass., Sonian's employees number 65.
