Beaverton software maker Responsive is opening a new office in Coimbatore, India, that has enough space for the Indian team to nearly double.

The new office will house the company’s product team, which is already mostly based in Coimbatore. It will now have more room for employees in sales, marketing, customer success and finance, the company said in a statement.

Responsive, formerly RFPIO, has 500 employees total with about half in the Coimbatore office and half reporting to the Beaverton headquarters. Coimbatore is the hometown of Responsive co-founder and CEO Ganesh Shankar.

“Our growth in Coimbatore is reflective of Responsive’s evolution and progress toward realizing our ambition to transform how global organizations share and exchange information,” said Shankar, in a written statement. “We’re thrilled to provide a new space to our local team members as they continue to rapidly innovate, and to have more space to support hiring additional employees in the area.”

Private-equity backed Responsive was founded eight years ago by Shankar, AJ Sunder and Sankar Lagudu. The company makes software to help teams respond to inquiries faster and more efficiently. Initially the product was aimed at RFPs but it quickly grew to incorporate helping teams collaborate on many kinds of business questions, such as handling requests for interest or qualifications, security questionnaires and due diligence.

As the product gained wider use, the company rebranded earlier this year to Responsive to better reflect what it can do. The company is an early player in what is now called the “strategic response management market.” This market is projected to hit $22.74 billion by 2028, according to Aragon Research.

In addition to hiring in India, the company has several openings in the U.S. in Beaverton as well as the Bay Area, Dallas and Kansas City.

As the company grows its headcount across its locations, co-founder Sunder, who is based in Beaverton, said earlier this fall the executive team has leaned heavily on its human resources personnel to manage remote work.

“We have professionals in the right place who understand how to keep teams communicating. It took us a while to get the hang of it, but I think we do have it now,” he said, at a Portland Business Journal middle market company roundtable.

The company has also made several new executive hires this year including Chief Revenue Officer Jeff Santelices and Chief Marketing Officer Michael Londgren.
