Telecom and technology solutions company Servpac announced that it has recently completed what it calls a “significant” expansion of its MTP Data Center in Mililani Technology Park. The facility provides colocation and cloud computing services, and the expansion project has doubled its capacity.

The company didn’t share the exact cost of the project, but said in the announcement that it was a multimillion-dollar investment.

The 30,000-square-foot data center opened in 2020, and work on the expansion began in June.

“We undertook the multimillion-dollar cabinet expansion project because demand from our customers was quickly outpacing our existing space,” Richard Zheng, president and founder of Servpac, said in an email to Pacific Business News.

Zheng went on to say that the company is “grateful” that its customers entrust them with their critical operational systems.

“We continue to earn their business with continued investments to stay at the forefront of technological advancements,” he said.

According to the company, the expansion will help to ensure that its customers’ operations are always able to continue without downtime, and that clients can access their information faster and more securely.

Servpac noted in the announcement that InForm Design served as the project architect, and InSynergy Engineering provided engineering consulting. Standard Sheetmetal & Mechanical was the air-conditioning subcontractor, and JB Construction handled the electrical work.

The completion of this project is only one part of a larger expansion that Servpac has planned for the MTP Data Center. In the announcement, the company said that “plans are already in motion” for Phase 2, which will include expanding the data center by an additional 150,000 square feet on the existing property. According to the company, Phase 2 will allow Servpac to expand cabinet and power capacity by up to 10 times.

The company didn’t share an exact timeline or cost for the next phase, but Zheng told PBN that Servpac will begin developing Phase 2 “in the coming months,” and that it will be a “multimillion-dollar project.”

In conjunction with the physical expansion that Phase 2 will bring, Servpac will also grow its staff.

“Servpac will be adding a variety of technical and management positions after the completion of our Phase 2 expansion,” Zheng said.

“We believe that Hawaii must create more high-tech jobs to provide increased job opportunities to keep our local kids here and to help bring former local residents back home. I also believe that homegrown high-tech companies help bring critically needed diversity to our economy,” he added.

Zheng noted that the company currently has job openings for managers, technicians and engineers, adding that anyone interested can contact Servpac at careers@servpac.com.
