The University of Hawaii and the Chamber of Commerce Hawaii are hosting a series of events over the coming months that aim to help high school and college students break into the information technology sector.
The Tech Days of Spring kicks off Friday, with the first event, a career fair, taking place from 1 to 4 p.m. at UH Manoa in the Campus Center Ballroom. The fair will highlight career options in intelligence and tech. Additional events are slated to run through April.
"We are committed to collaborate with local employers in equipping our students with the skills they need to enter into and succeed in technology careers that enable them to prosper and contribute to Hawaii," said UH President David Lassner in a statement.
Other events in the series include a workshop on careers in the federal government on Feb. 9, a career fair focused on information technology and cybersecurity — which will take place both virtually and at UH West Oahu on Feb. 21 — as well as an event for tech professionals at UH Manoa on April 1.

In a statement, Sherry Menor-McNamara, president and CEO of Chamber of Commerce Hawaii, said that Tech Days of Spring gives “students impactful ways to connect with IT employers and prepare for future success in Hawaii’s technology workforce.” For participating companies, it’s also a way to build a pipeline of workers for the future.
“We hope Hawaii’s young people take full advantage of these events where they can interact with tech professionals, explore diverse career options, and match with potential employers,” Menor-McNamara said.
In addition to UH and Chamber of Commerce Hawaii, other partners involved in the event series include IT Sector Partnership, CIO Council of Hawaii, Cyber Hawaii, Hawaii Defense Alliance, Thrive HI, the Pacific Asian Center for Entrepreneurship and the Association of Computing Machinery Student Chapter.
