The state Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism, or DBEDT, is teaming up with Amazon and Shopify to host a conference that aims to help local companies navigate e-commerce operations and expand to serve markets outside of Hawaii.

The Made in Hawaii Presents: Your Future in E-Commerce conference will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Feb. 21 at Ala Moana Hotel.

“As the global marketplace continues to shift toward online platforms, this conference will guide Hawaii manufacturers and retailers on how to tap into markets beyond the state’s borders to succeed in the world of e-commerce,” DBEDT officials stated in a release announcing the conference. “Recent challenges such as the devastating Maui wildfires also highlight the importance of e-commerce as a seamless replacement for traditional stores during crises.”

According to the event’s website, the target audience includes manufacturers, retailers, supply chain partners, digital marketing agencies and more. The event will include presentations, panel discussions and breakout sessions. Networking opportunities also will take place throughout the day, and local businesses and government organizations will also host exhibitor booths.

A roster of local and international industry leaders are scheduled to speak, including Bobby Co, Amazon Marketplace seller growth team leader, who will deliver a keynote address. Chris Schmicker, Shopify brand marketing director, also will lead a panel featuring Shopify business owners.

Breakout sessions will be available for different levels of businesses, with Co leading one for beginners on how to get started, and Schmicker leading the intermediate portion that will cover growth strategies. Ellen Ng, founder of Inoa.ai, will lead the advanced session on utilizing automation, data and AI.

“This conference offers a unique opportunity for participants to gain invaluable strategies and practical knowledge that will fuel their success in e-commerce,” said James Kunane Tokioka, director of DBEDT, in a statement. “We are proud to partner with Amazon and Shopify to help move our local businesses forward.”
