Last night, we hosted the State of Innovation: Talent Inno event presented by Hired at The Yard Coworking — Eastern Market.
D.C. Inno and a crowd of around 100 gathered to hear a panel discussion covering the best practices around retaining, attracting and fostering talent in Washington, D.C. Amelia Friedman, COO and co-founder of Hatch Apps, moderated the panel, which included C’pher Gresham, VP of communities at Seed Spot; Hilliary Turnipseed, director of Talent at Upside; Claire Kennedy, senior director of people operations at Axios; and Karsten Vagner, senior director of people operations at Hired.
They covered topics like how acquiring great talent is just as important as raising capital, the hiring practices they have seen work, the lessons they have learned in their careers and advice to others looking to get the right employees on their teams.
In addition to the panel, we also heard short pitches from Hatch Apps, Cybrary and Entrada during the Inno Showcase, which highlighted these startups, their products and plans for the future.
A big thank you to Hired for powering the night's discussion, and to the The Yard — Eastern Market for hosting us in their space! And to all our attendees, panelists and participants: You helped make the evening successful.
Want a taste of last night's festivities? We’ve selected some of the best photos from the event below! Also, be sure to stay tuned for our September pillar event, Coolest Companies Fest. We're now accepting nominations, so make sure to let us know who you think is the, well, coolest company in the District here.
In the meantime, don't forget to take a look at some recommended reading materials from our presenting sponsor, Hired, to learn more about what we discussed.
