Digital marketing company Sendinblue has acquired Captain Wallet, a digital wallet company headquartered in Paris.
Sendinblue, which is also headquartered in Paris but has its U.S. headquarters in Seattle, has now acquired six companies dating back to September 2021. According to a Sendinblue spokesperson, Captian Wallet has 29 employees, all of whom are joining Sendinblue.
"We are enhancing our value with a new mobile marketing channel that will allow all our users to better engage with their customer base," Mickael Arias, chief revenue officer at Sendinblue, said in a release. "We are excited about bringing a turnkey solution to retailers and retail brands of all sizes."
The companies aren't disclosing financial terms of the deal, which has closed. According to the spokesperson, Sendinblue now has more than 730 employees. The spokesperson said Captain Wallet will operate independently and maintain its brand in France and Spain, but elsewhere its services will be sold as Sendinblue Wallet.
Captain Wallet, founded in 2013, helps clients put their coupons and loyalty cards directly in the mobile wallets Google Pay and Apple Pay. Because these wallets come pre-installed on smartphones, according to Captain Wallet, companies can more easily engage with their customers using Captain Wallet than through standalone apps. Captain Wallet says it has over 200 customers, including McDonald's and Lacoste.
Sendinblue, meanwhile, was founded in 2012. The company helps clients with email marketing, text marketing, push notifications and live chat. According to Sendinblue, the company has more than 500,000 active users. Sendinblue raised $160 million in 2020.
In September, Sendinblue acquired the cloud-based business phone company Yodel.io, and it acquired the scheduling and video conferencing software company MeetFox in March. The company didn't disclose financial terms of either deal. Sendinblue acquired three companies in September 2021 for a combined price of more than $47 million.
"We are always looking for companies that can really extend our product offering and for companies that complement our team," Steffen Schebesta, Sendinblue's North America CEO, previously told the Business Journal. "That's our whole philosophy basically behind all our acquisitions."
