The South Texas Drilling Roundup is a weekly review of drilling permit applications filed with the Railroad Commission of Texas over a 67-county area of South Texas.

  • Date Range: June 23 to June 30
  • Permit Applications: 35
  • Companies Filing: 16
  • Most Active Company: Marathon Oil LLC with 6 applications; Rosewood Resources Inc. with 6 applications
  • Most Active County: Karnes County with 8 applications

Karnes County led the way with the highest number of new applications for drilling permits with the Texas Railroad Commission in the past week.

Houston-based oil and natural gas company Marathon Oil LLC filed six applications with the commission for horizontal drills across six new oil wells in Karnes. All six will be 8.6 miles southwest of Kenedy in the Eagle Ford and have a completion depth of 22,000 feet. The Texas Railroad Commission noted that drillers must isolate any potential flow zones in this area or any zones involving any corrosive formation fluids.

Dallas-based Rosewood Resources Inc. also filed applications to drill six new horizontal oil wells in Frio County. Drilling is poised to take place 17.1 miles west of nearby Dilley, each with a completion depth of 8,700 feet.

Houston-based oil and natural gas company EOG Resources Inc. — which has a San Antonio office — filed an application to drill a new oil or gas well just over 13 miles southeast of Gonzalez with a completion depth of 13,500 feet.
