Beaverton networking company Bigleaf Networks named one of its board members to the CEO position, replacing company founder Joel Mulkey.

Greg Davis, who has been on the company board since 2020, was named to the role. Mulkey is stepping out of the company’s day-to-day operations but will remain on the board and be available to Davis and the team, according to the company.

Davis, who is based in Houston, was most recently chief operating officer of HungerRush. That company is in the hospitality industry and makes restaurant management software. Before that, he was executive vice president for global sales and field marketing for cybersecurity company Alert Logic.

In his time at Alert Logic he helped grow the company from $10 million to $100 million in revenue.

“I’ve had the privilege of leading several highly disruptive companies into sustained accelerated growth and innovation. Each looking to unlock the potential of a disruptive solution. Bigleaf is no different,” said Davis in a written statement. “Bigleaf’s ability to optimize connectivity to every cloud-based application is precisely what is needed to run today’s businesses.”

Bigleaf specializes in intelligent, software-defined networking. As more companies move critical business components into cloud infrastructure, Bigleaf helps manage the connection by prioritizing traffic. This leads to better reliability and speed. It was founded in 2012 and is led by a team of telecom industry veterans from companies like Freewire Broadband, Electric Lightwave and Google.

"It has been a great privilege to lead Bigleaf and be a part of this amazing company for the last 10 years," said Mulkey in a written statement. “Our team has accomplished amazing work to date, and I believe Greg is an excellent choice to lead the company through its next phase. He is a seasoned leader with deep experience in scaling technology businesses and has a strong understanding of our market, customers, and partners.”

The company has raised $27.4 million from investors. The latest infusion was $21 million raised in 2019. That round was led by private equity firm Updata Partners, which has made several Portland-area investments.

In addition to taking the company to the next level, Mulkey said he expects life within the company to remain the same.

“Most importantly, I think (Davis) will keep important aspects of our culture, while also driving excellence in new ways that will be critical to our success at the next levels of scale,” Mulkey said.
