Work Out Your Brain With These Upcoming Tech Bootcamps in Boston

Do you want to get better at utilizing technology to help your audience engagement? Or maybe you want to learn the newest social media tips and tricks? Whether you're just curious about SQL or want to become self-sufficient with software development, a tech bootcamp can provide the help you need.

Even one-day workshops are worth the investment. According to Course Report, the answer is yes. Of the participants surveyed, there was an average salary increase of 51 percent, and the average post bootcamp salary was $70,698.

We compiled a list of tech bootcamps over the next several weeks that cover a range of topics, from UX design to Google Analytics.

General Assembly Boston 

SQL Bootcamp Workshop: SQL, or structured query language, is used to communicate with database management systems. This seven-hour bootcamp will use a combination of lectures and in-class exercises to teach beginners the basics of SQL, like how to write queries. Before class, students will need to install PostgreSQL and PGadmin. The next bootcamp session will take place on Thursday, Aug. 1. A regular ticket costs $299. 

User Experience Design Bootcamp: This online bootcamp is dedicated to crafting digital products and predicting users' needs. The six-hour camp costs $250 to attend and will take place over Slack and Zoom. Through a design thinking exercise, participants will create their own designs and test out the user experience. If you’re interested in learning how to effectively bring users into contact with your products through design, this camp is for you. 

Adobe Photoshop Bootcamp: Let your inner artist out with this six-hour Adobe Photoshop Bootcamp. The goal of this camp is to get students comfortable with Photoshop in just one session. Participants will learn how to utilize the toolbar and panel, how to import images, and the most effective keyboard shortcuts. A regular ticket costs $200, and students must bring a laptop with Photoshop downloaded. The next available bootcamp is on Saturday, Aug. 2. 

Social Media Bootcamp: Let’s be honest—social media can be overwhelming. With a multitude of platforms and various ways to capture audience engagement (#followme!) it’s hard to know what can be the most effective for your personal brand or business. General Assembly is offering a crash course in social media on Friday, Aug. 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. With this bootcamp, students will learn, through case studies, how to engage followers, how to analyze effectiveness and return on investment, and the right social media strategy for their business. Tickets for this camp cost $200 each. 

Google Analytics Bootcamp: Make sure to bring your laptop to this bootcamp, as you’ll be analyzing trends and patterns in your own website’s traffic. Participants will be able to utilize Google Analytics to enhance their websites through marketing tactics like tagging companies. This event costs $250 to attend. The next session will be held on Friday, Aug. 16. 

Code in One Day: HTML and CSS Bootcamp: Have you ever wanted to learn how to code, but just couldn’t find the time? Participants will learn the basics of web development in just six hours. For $250, students will learn how to build landing pages and marketing sites, front-end code organization, the syntax of HTML and CSS, and more. This course is taught completely online using Zoom and Slack. The next dates for this bootcamp are Wednesday, July 31, and Monday, Aug. 26. 

Launch Academy

Launch Academy at 77 Summer St. offers a 10-week immersive on software development. Students will learn the essentials of three programming languages: JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3. Before participating, students can also take three weeks of optional preparation in the preflight program or eight weeks of “pre-work” in the ignition program. Tuition costs $17,500, but it can be paid over time. Launch Academy also awards scholarships to minorities and military veterans. Learn more about Launch Academy here

Harvard Extension School

For aspiring programmers who aren't afraid to invest a little more time, the Harvard Extension School offers several programming certificates. Students will learn the programming languages C, PHP, JavaScript, SQL, CSS, and HTML and additionally delve into a specific topic area like web interfaces or database systems. The program takes three years to complete and costs $11,360 on average. No application is required. Learn more here.

CodeSquad

This nonprofit is aimed at developing the next generation of tech talent out of Boston's urban core. Completely free, the 20-week program teaches students the basics of web development and works to place graduates in internships and full-time technology roles at Boston-area companies. No coding experience is required, but applicants do need a high school diploma or GED and authorization to work in the U.S. for at least a year after graduation. Learn more here.
