August M&A roundup: Trillium's redemption and Reebok's $2.5B sale



The unofficial end of summer is upon us. Some major deals rounded out the summer, including Pfizer's acquisition of Trillium Therapeutics' at a 200% premium. Trillium went from being at risk of getting delisted from the Nasdaq to being bought by one of the biggest pharmaceutical giants.

Here are the highlights from August 2021:

  • Trillium Therapeutics, a cancer startup that developed a suite of cancer-fighting molecules targeting the immune system, was acquired by pharmaceutical giant Pfizer Inc. for $2.26 billion in equity.
  • BICO, the Boston-based bioconvergence company formerly known as CELLINK, announced Friday it has acquired a San Diego 3D research applications company called Advanced BioMatrix for $15 million.
  • Collins Aerospace, a division of Waltham-based Raytheon Technologies Corp., signed a deal to acquire privately held FlightAware, a Houston-based flight-tracking technology maker. Terms of the deal were not disclosed
  • OvareVentures of Los Angeles announced it is acquiring Massachusetts-based Kenver Ltd., a sportswear boutique and outdoor retail hub founded in 1959 by the late sportsman and skier Ken Vermeulen.
  • Insurance brokerage Risk Strategies today announced it has acquired the assets of employee benefits specialty broker Benevestco Inc., a Resource Seven company based in Fayetteville, Georgia. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
  • Woburn-based Azurity Pharmaceuticals Inc. has acquired Arbor Pharmaceuticals Inc. in Atlanta with the intention of merging the two firms. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
  • The popular Los Angeles salad chain Sweetgreen acquired Boston-based Spyce a robotic kitchen founded by four MIT grads in 2015. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
  • LeanBox, a Boston-based startup that sells fresh-food kiosks in offices, was acquired by the California office catering startup garten. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
  • Boston-based Genuity Science sold to a New York biotech company called HiberCell in a $100 million all-stock transaction.
  • Authentic Brands Group, a New York-based brands manager, acquired Boston-based Reebok from Adidas for $2.5 billion, mostly in cash.
  • Desktop Metal, a Burlington-based 3D printing company, acquired The ExOne Co., a Pennsylvania-based competitor, for $575 million in cash and stock.
