Workbar slated to open new Woburn location as expansion continues

Workbar is set to open its newest location as the co-working space provider continues its expansion throughout Greater Boston.

The new 22,000-square-feet space in Woburn will be Workbar’s ninth location in Massachusetts. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is slated to officially open the space on Sept. 20.

The Woburn location features the typical Workbar perks, like collaborative and single-person work areas, videoconferencing equipment and an on-site support team. This Workbar will also include a fitness center, dry-cleaning pickup and drop off, free parking, multiple cafes and a courtyard.

And, for the first time, Workbar will offer a telepresence room. The room will include smart TV monitors and custom seating that allows both in-person and virtual meeting attendees to be at eye level with one another.

“Woburn is the latest example of our commitment to offering close-to-home workplace destinations for professionals and teams that want to choose when and where they work. We look forward to welcoming many new members and also to giving our existing members more options to access our network of spaces,” Workbar CEO Sarah Travers said in a statement earlier this year.

The coworking space is located in Woburn’s Unicorn Park. Workbar said the site was chosen because it is minutes off I-93 and Routes 128 and 95, nine miles from Boston and is located along the commuter rail.

Workbar’s other locations outside Boston and Cambridge include Burlington, Arlington, Needham, Norwood and Salem. The Boston-based company is the third largest coworking space provider in Massachusetts.

Demand for shared workspaces took a hit due to the pandemic, but Workbar is working on its comeback. The company raised $1.5 million in new equity in March 2021 and was implementing some space changes to fit the post-pandemic world, including a workplace-mobility program so members can access a number of its facilities, not just one location, and more private office space.

Union Park was acquired by National Development in 2011. The 28-acre suburban office park is home to six buildings comprising over 600,000 square feet of office space.

“Workbar brings an exciting new use to Unicorn, which will enhance the energy of the property as well as help grow entrepreneurial and established small businesses in the region with this flexible, technology-based workspace,” Chuck Landry, senior vice president of asset management at National Development, said in a statement.
