After 35 years of developing a biodegradable technology to eliminate bacteria and mold and to clean up hazardous spills for boating and constructing industries, Braintree-based EarthSafe Chemical Alternatives has launched an air-cleaning division.

Boston Air Solutions was founded in response to the Covid-19 pandemic to provide an air-quality monitoring system that can integrate into existing HVAC systems to ensure the air in office buildings, schools, hotels, casinos, restaurants, airports, sports and senior care facilities have germ-free air, company officials said.

“Our mission is to provide building owners and managers with a cost-efficient way to make indoor air clean and safe to breathe,” said infection prevention specialist RJ Valentine, who created the system.

While many disinfecting systems rely on UV radiation to clean spaces, BAS uses bi-polar ionization technology. BAS said its precise electronic charge creates a field of negative and positive ions that react with water vapor and oxygen to form free radicals that neutralize odors, minimize harmful particulates and kill pathogens.

“It's very low maintenance to install and only has to be checked on an annual basis by a building engineer,” COO Steve Wilson said.

As the system is isntalled, building owners can view air quality updates through a wireless monitor that specifies which sections of the building are facing low-air quality.

After the system is installed, BAS offers property managers custom toolkits with marketing materials that can go in lobbies and offices to ease tenant concerns and show that the building is equipped with its bipolar ionization technology, among any other safety measures in place.
