Georgia Tech named James J. Hudgens as the new director of the Georgia Tech Research Institute, the school’s applied research division. Hudgens, who will assume the position Sept. 2, is currently the director of the Threat Intelligence Center at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico. FI Navigator, an Atlanta-based data and analytics platform for the banking industry, hired Jon Kuck as the executive VP and CRO. Kuck brings 28 years of sales and management experience in the fintech industry to FI Navigator. Prior to joining FI Navigator, he served as a lead sales executive for Fiserv’s global sales organization.

Atlanta-based GIGA Data Centers, a data center provider, hired David Shepard as its new CRO. In his new role, Shepard will oversee sales, marketing and partner channel teams. He will report to CEO Jake Ring. Prior to this position, Shepard served as the executive VP and general manager of BASELAYER, a manufacturer of modular data center solutions.

The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia named Ángel Cabrera as the new president of Georgia Tech. Cabrera, who previously served as president of George Mason University in Virginia, will assume the position before Sept. 15.

Atlanta-based lease accounting software startup LeaseQuery hired Jim Dooley as the company’s new VP of channels and alliances. Before accepting his position at LeaseQuery, Dooley worked in executive sales and marketing leadership positions at CoStar, BeyondTrust, Viasoft, NetPro, InfoMentis and MSA/Dun & Bradstreet Software.

Shadow Ventures, an Atlanta-based venture capital firm focused on investing in startups in the AEC and CRE tech markets, recruited Matt Ohlman as the firm’s new CTO. Ohlman, an AEC-technology strategist and former managing partner of FiveBox, has more than 15 years of experience. He has worked with Infotycoon, Kahua, Stellaro and Compliance 360, and done enterprise work for the Mayo Clinic, Cox Business and Hitachi Automotive.

Atlanta-based medical marijuana company Surterra Wellness added Ed Brown, former CEO of The Patrón Spirits Co., to the company as executive director. Surterra is led by billionaire CEO William “Beau” Wrigley Jr., great-grandson of the chewing gum company’s founder. Brown previously retired last year after nearly 20 years at Patrón. Under his leadership, Patrón grew from 25,000 cases sold in 1989 to more than 4.25 million in 2018, and is currently the top-selling ultra-premium tequila in the world and the most profitable spirits company in history, Surterra said in an announcement.

ClickDimensions, an Atlanta-based marketing technology and services provider for Microsoft Dynamics 365, hired Paul Colella as the company’s general manager of services. In his new position, he will spearhead the development of the company’s full services portfolio. Colella has more than 20 years of experience leading Microsoft partner channel companies. Most recently, he worked as the senior VP of customer engagements and business outcomes at Edgewater Fullscope.
