After nearly six years of planning, New Mexico Tech just debuted a new 5,200-square-foot facility.
The Deju University House, named after alumnus Dr. Raul Deju and his wife Sherry Deju, will be used for events, meetings and training sessions. It has the capacity to host up to 210 people. The Dejus provided funding for the project.
While the facility cost was not disclosed, Katie Bauer, interim marketing and communications director and communication specialist for New Mexico Tech, said the building was constructed with 100% non-state appropriated funds. More than 50% of the funds were from philanthropic giving, she said.
“The Deju University House was designed primarily as a gathering place for faculty, staff, students, alumni and donors,” Bauer told Albuquerque Business First via email. “It offers a beautiful and intimate facility where alumni and other donors, whose generous donations do so much to further our mission as one of the top STEM universities in the nation, can reconnect physically with our university.”
Bauer said they anticipate rental revenue will be generated from both internal and external events at the facility.
Construction of the facility started in October 2020. The building has both indoor and outdoor space, as well as a catering kitchen and teleconferencing capabilities.
"From the beginning, Raul and Shari Deju, whose generous donation provided the funds for the stunning Deja University House, wanted to provide the NMT campus with a warm and inviting space that could handle events from one-on-one meetings with constituents and prospective donors to small conferences and alumni events," Bauer said.
