After a month of competition and more than 5,000 votes, StemoniX has claimed the title of Tech Madness champion.
Number four seed StemoniX received more votes than any other company participating in Tech Madness. The final round was no exception. StemoniX received 71 percent of the votes in the championship round. Before facing off against Upsie in the finals, StemoniX beat out larger Twin Cities tech business like Zipnosis and Bright Health.
Founded in 2014, StemoniX uses stem cells to create micro-organs for drug testing and development. The company's co-founders, Ping Yeh and Robert Petcavich, established the business with the hope that StemoniX's tech would allow researchers to test potential drug effects on people that never would be put through clinical trials, like children or pregnant women. StemoniX won the Minnesota Cup's grand prize in 2016.
In addition to bragging rights and eternal glory, the StemoniX team will receive a ballin' (sorry) prize: a commemorative basketball with their company's logo on it.
We started this competition with a bracket of 32 teams and one question: Which startups would you invest in? Through Tech Madness we hoped to create a friendly competition that highlighted some of the exciting tech companies that made up Minnesota's startup scene.
