The Scramblin' Egg food truck has won Bloomington's first startup competition and its $100,000 prize aimed at helping the winner establish a brick-and-mortar operation in the city.

The Scramblin' Egg business was founded by Grant Veitenheimer and Nick Peterson about a year-and-a-half ago serving a selection of made-to-order egg-based items, such as breakfast burritos, bowls and sandwiches at various locations around the city of Bloomington. The truck's menu allows customers to choose the veggies, meats and sauces they want added to their selection.

Veitenheimer and Peterson plan to use the award to establish a permanent location in the city, though they ultimately want to expand their concept nationally, and eventually globally, according to a news release from the city of Bloomington.

The city, in partnership with the Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce, launched what they called the Hatch Bloomington competition in March, inviting any entrepreneurs who wanted to establish a physical location in the city to enter. The competition had 60 applicants that were judged through two rounds of community voting with additional involvement by a seven-judge panel, the announcement said.

"The Hatch Bloomington competition aligns with the city’s strategic objectives and developmental priorities by encouraging local entrepreneurs to develop business ideas that will positively impact Bloomington's future," the announcement said.
