Minnesota's largest entrepreneur competition has chosen 90 startups to move forward as semifinalists for the 2024 season.

Minnesota Cup supports early-stage entrepreneurs from nine main category divisions. MN Cup on Monday said that ten companies were chosen for each division.

Since starting in 2005, the competition has supported over 23,000 entrepreneurs with over $5 million in prizes. The competition is open to any Minnesota-based entrepreneur with less than $1 million of annual revenue.

The 90 companies were narrowed down from 3,178 applications, 10% more than MN Cup’s previous record in 2023. MN Cup said out of the applicants, 43% identify as female and 39% identify as non-white. Over a third also come from outside the metro.

The semifinalists are competing for a share of over $400,000 in cash prizes. This year’s grand prize winner will take home $50,000 after being announced at the MN Cup’s grand finale September 16. Last year's winner was Carba, a technology company that removes carbon dioxide from the air to permanently store underground in the form of solid carbon.
