Minnesota's largest startup competition is about to start accepting applications for the 2024 season.
MN Cup announced Thursday that it will be accepting applications from all early-stage and startup businesses March 11. Minnesota-based businesses with revenues under $1 million are invited to compete for a share of $400,000 in prize money. There is no fee to enter, and no equity is taken.
MN Cup co-founder Scott Litman said in a statement that since the contest's launch, " finalists have gone on to raise more than $1.1 billion in capital to support their idea development, create jobs, and broker numerous business partnerships."
Last year had the most applicants ever, with 3,052 Minnesotans applying for the competition. The 2023 grand prize winner was Carba, a clean-energy venture combating climate change by reversing the process of coal mining to break down carbon into a solid form.
MN Cup's entry divisions include:
- General
- High Tech
- Education/Training
- Energy/Clean Tech/Water
- Food/Agriculture/Beverage
- Life Science/Health IT
- Impact Ventures
- Student (undergrad or grad students
- Youth (under 18)
Ninety semifinalists will be selected from the nine divisions. Semifinalists will move forward and receive opportunities for education, mentorship, and networking. Division winners from each of the nine divisions will be selected in August.
The 2024 Grand Prize Winner will be announced at MN Cup's Grand Finale celebration on September 16th.
