About Healthcare, a St. Paul software firm that helps hospitals manage patient discharges and after-care, has bought a health-focused AI and analytics platform called Edgility.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

About Healthcare was founded in 2005 and provides its services to more than 150 health-care systems. The company rebranded in 2021 from its former name, Central Logic. Originally based in Utah, the company moved to downtown St. Paul in 2020.

It is a portfolio company of Boulder, Colorado-based private equity firm Rubicon Technology Partners.

Edgility, based in Tampa, Florida, was founded in 2015. The company created a suite of AI-powered products from helping keep patients on track for discharge to a patient record system. Edgility has 13 employees; all but one will join About.

What intrigued About Healthcare about Edgility was its focus on capacity, patient progression and orchestration, said Jonathan Shoemaker, CEO of About Healthcare, who said the emphasis stood out among other analytics firms focused on clinical outcomes or revenue cycle management.

"Ultimately, the decision boiled down to product and cultural fit," Shoemaker said.

The benefit of this deal lies in the complementary nature of the products rather than overlapping functionalities, Shoemaker said.

"Our solutions focus on workflow processes while they emphasize data review and AI integration," Shoemaker said. "Creating harmonization between these capabilities doesn't require extensive product rationalization or re-engineering, allowing us to integrate and deliver them to the market in a quick turn. This approach sets us apart from other acquisitions, enabling rapid market introduction of a complementary product pair."
