Startup community builder Beta has acquired startup news website Tech.MN for an undisclosed sum, it announced Wednesday.

It's buying Tech.MN from SureSwift Capital, which bought the site in 2019. Tech.MN was founded in 2009 by Jeff Pesek and Mike Bollinger.

"At Beta we’ve always been focusing on accelerating the success of Minnesota startups and one of the components of our impact that was missing was our ability to tell the story on a larger scale of all the great things that are happening in our ecosystem," Beta Executive Director Casey Shultz said in a story on Tech.MN.

Founded in 2013, Beta is a major support organization for Minnesota's entrepreneurs. It runs the annual Twin Cities Startup Week and a twice-a-year accelerator program for local startup companies.

Tech.MN will expand its coverage beyond just technology to cover a wider crop of startups, Content Manager Alex Skjong said.

Tech.MN was something of an outlier in SureSwift's portfolio of software companies, SureSwift CEO Kevin McArdle said. McArdle will be joining Beta's board of directors, the nonprofit said.
