Shaye Mandle will leave his role as president and CEO of the Medical Alley Association, it announced Tuesday. His last day there is March 1.

Mandle has led the organization since 2014, when he replaced Dale Wahlstrom. Before serving as CEO, Mandle was Medical Alley's chief operating officer. He joined Medical Alley in 2011.

"Leading Medical Alley has been the most extraordinary professional experience of my life. I will forever be grateful for my time at Medical Alley and for the support and friendships I have received and built in Minnesota," Mandle said in a statement.

Mandle is leaving to become chief operating officer of Washington, D.C.-based Biotechnology Innovation Organization, which says it's the world's largest biotech advocacy organization.

Former Medical Alley board chair Steffen Hovard will be the organization's interim president and CEO while it conducts a national search.

The Medical Alley Association is a non-profit group that supports Minnesota's health care technology economy through research, events and advocacy.Under Mandle's leadership, it re-rebranded to its current name (it was known as LifeScience Alley from 2006 to 2016) and moved from St. Louis Park to its current location in Golden Valley.

Related: Medical Alley Association named a "Best Place to Work" by the Business Journal in 2018.

“Under Shaye’s transformational leadership, the Medical Alley Association has become one of the most influential healthcare organizations in the nation. Thanks to his vision, Medical Alley is a well-established force in the field," Medical Alley Board Chair James Rogers said in a statement.

With 535 dues-paying members in 2020, Medical Alley is Minnesota's 20th largest business advocacy group, according to Business Journal research.
