SportsHub Games Network, a Minneapolis sports startup that counts the owners of the Minnesota Vikings among its investors, announced Monday that it has acquired Fantasy National Golf Club. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
SportsHub offers fantasy-sports game content and is led by SportsData co-founder Rob Phythian. SportsHub was founded in 2015, about two years after SportsData was acquired by Sportsradar for an undisclosed amount.
WISE Ventures was started by the Wilfs, the family that owns the Minnesota Vikings. The Wilf family invested in companies before launching WISE, but decided to create a dedicated VC arm a few years ago to formalize the process of pursing and evaluating deals. SportsHub is one of 17 companies in WISE's portfolio.
Over the past several years, SportsHub has scooped up a half-dozen fantasy sports companies, including Plymouth-based LeagueSafe. FNGC is its seventh acquisition.
"This continues our strategy of rolling up the middle tier of fantasy sports operators," Phythian said in a statement. "We're excited to bring Fantasy National into the fold, and we're confident we can continue its impressive growth trajectory by leveraging our resources and relationships with key players within the golf industry."
FNGC is a private golf club for fantasy golfers. It creates research tools that help users make picks for their teams.
"I'm joining a team that consists of several Fantasy Sports Hall of Famers that are dedicated to making the sports we love even more entertaining," FNGC Founder Mike Metzger said. "I'm excited to leverage their knowledge, experience and passion to create an even better platform for our members and grow the game of golf."
