Andre Creighton, co-founder and chief financial officer at TurnSignl, a Twin Cities startup that provides on-demand legal help for drivers, is leaving the startup to become CFO at Peanut Butter and Jelly TV in Covington, Louisiana.

Creighton starts his new position at PB&J, which operates a security camera system and streaming app for schools and daycare, on Tuesday, Oct. 1, though he'll largely stay based in the Twin Cities. Creighton said the move was a planned exit with his partners at TurnSignl, and felt the company was in a good place for him to leave.

"TurnSignl is heading for some really extraordinary things in the automotive space," Creighton said. "I just felt the timing was right, and that I had accomplished some great things."

The Minneapolis-based tech company's app connects drivers to lawyers over a live video chat to provide on-demand legal help when they have been stopped by police or been involved in an accident, using a smartphone camera to record the incident. The app originally launched in Minnesota, and is now available in all 50 states.

TurnSignl was founded in 2020 by Creighton, Mychal Frelix and Jazz Hampton after the killings of Philando Castile and George Floyd by law enforcement. The company has raised about $6 million from investors since being founded.

Before TurnSignl, Creighton served as a financial and tax analyst at Cargill Inc. and Spire Credit Union and as a tax associate at consulting firms Baker Tilly Virchow & Krause and EisnerAmper (formerly Lurie). In 2023, Creighton was named CFO of the Year and celebrated as a black leader in the Twin Cities by the Business Journal.

While he will be moving on from being a part of TurnSignl's day-to-day operations, Creighton said he will continue to support the company's mission.

"It's bittersweet," Creighton said. "I started something with two of my really close friends. Jazz was the officiant at my wedding and Mychal was my best man. I thought the timing was right for myself and my family's needs."
