Minnesota startup creating CBD formula to fight dogs' fear of fireworks

Humans might look forward to the Fourth of July festivities but the holiday can be a tough time for dogs.

Hoping to combat some of that firework-related fear, Minneapolis-based Coolhouse Botanics has launched a line of calming CBD solutions for canines. The company claims that the new brand, Kradle, is the first CBD brand focused exclusively on stress reduction for dogs.

"At Kradle we say, 'Lose the stress. Love your pet' because we believe our dogs can lead happy and stress-free lives with safe, effective and natural CBD solutions that calm them from the inside out," Coolhouse CEO and co-founder Matt Scarlet said in a statement.

To help sell its new line of dog CBD products, Kradle has recruited canine Instagram influencer Tinkerbelle. Tink has more than 400,000 Instagram followers and is a dog fashion model who has trotted the runway at Fashion Week events in NYC, Milan and Paris.

Although Coolhouse debuted its product in time for the Fourth of July, the company says its products could also be used to fight fear related to thunderstorms, travel, separation, trips to the vet and more.

Just like human CBD products, Kradel comes in several different forms: melts, chews and toppers. The company says it utilizes only broad-spectrum CBD (with no THC) and "special sauce" ingredients to make the product appeal to pets.

Coolhouse launched just over a year ago and Kradle is its first product. As of today, Kradle is available at more than 400 Pet Supplies Plus stores in 31 states. Dog owners can also purchase it on Kradel's site.
