The Nerdery, a consultancy and software development firm, has named technology veteran Joseph Tobolski as its first chief technology officer, the company announced Wednesday.

As CTO, Tobolski will be based in Chicago and work with Nerdery leadership to bolster the company's technology efforts, as well as mentor the next generation of tech talent at Nerdery.

Prior to joining Nerdery, Tobolski worked in the financial services and industrial industries. Most recently, he was the CTO of Cognizant, where he supervised the company's banking and financial efforts. Tobolski also spent more than two decades in various technology roles at Accenture in Chicago.

"Being a part of both the technology and consulting industries for so long allows me to truly appreciate how unique Nerdery is," Tobolski said in a statement. "It's an honor to serve as the CTO, and I'm excited to dive in and hit the ground running."

In January, Nerdery cut about nine percent of its total workforce. As part of the cuts, the company shuttered its Kansas City office and eliminated 32 total positions across the business. At the time, a Nerdery spokesperson said that the cuts were made with the intent of freeing up resources to invest in new service offerings and additional talent – much of which would be in the Twin Cities.
