Seven Sundays, a Minneapolis-based breakfast brand that makes cereal from gluten- or grain-free ingredients, has raised $6 million in funding, as announced Wednesday.

Starting as a muesli stand at a Minneapolis farmers market in 2011, Seven Sundays is now celebrating a year of triple-digit growth and the recent investment of $6 million. The funding was led by a group of individual private investors along with Sidekick Partners, Clover Vitality, Bobby Parrish, GRT SHT Ventures and existing angel investors, the company said.

The family-owned business founded by CEO Hanna Barnstable got a big break in 2015 when it landed a national distribution deal with Target Corp. In 2019, because of its growth beyond Minnesota’s borders, Barnstable decided to structure the startup as a certified B corporation, a type of for-profit company that balances its earnings with social and environmental impacts.

The company said it plans to use the $6 million to invest in its employees, develop new products and expand its eco-friendly and less-wasteful supply chain business practices.

Seven Sundays has introduced several new products after its original line of muesli, such grain free nut granolas, protein oatmeal and certified upcycled cereals. Earlier this year, Seven Sundays also launched an upcycled oat cereal made from the leftovers of oat milk.

“From day one we have been on a mission to create better tasting and better-for-you cereals for people and their families,” said Barnstable in a statement. “We are so excited for this next phase of growth and grateful for the opportunity to partner with investors who share our mission and believe in using business as a force for good.”
