Bim Bam Boo, the Minneapolis-based startup that makes eco-friendly bamboo toilet paper and facial tissue, is bringing its product to the shelves of Target and Fresh Thyme.

Target recently piloted Bim Bam Boo facial tissue in 30 brick-and-mortar stores and online, and within about a week the company bumped it up to 50 stores around the country – none of which are local, yet. Bim Bam Boo will also be launching into all of organic grocer Fresh Thyme’s locations this month.

CEO and founder Zoë Levin said she’s excited to see her company, which addresses a “big global issue,” competing against the likes of Kleenex and Procter and Gamble.

Bim Bam Boo sells bamboo-based facial tissue, paper towels, wet wipes and toilet paper. Bamboo matures more rapidly than trees used for convential paper products. The company’s website says 27,000 trees are flushed away each day by way of convential toilet paper.

Levin added that Bim Bam Boo products will also be on the shelves of a 380-store chain in about four months, but she did not name which store.

She said that a recent conversation with Whole Foods Market could signal more good news for her company, with a potential for seven figures in revenue. Whole Foods also opens nationwide distribution for the company, so it’s a “really powerful partnership to have for a brand of our size,” she said.

The partnerships are part of a growth plan for a company that ramped up from a Kickstarter and is now found in 1,500 stores nationwide. Levin said the company has seen quadruple year-over-year growth in wholesale revenue.

Its step into brick-and-mortar has been key, as that’s where most paper purchases occur. “We're finally able to get our foot in the door where the majority of paper sales are being transacted,” she said. “And we're doing this round back to school, which is second-largest retail event every year.”

In 2020, Bim Bam Boo's annual revenue grew over 900% to over $2.5 million as it expanded its retail presence to 850 stores nationwide, according to Business Journal reporting from 2021.

The company recently launched its seed round for first-time fundraising to support the continued growth.
