Just over a year since its record $47 million Series B round, a Winston-Salem integrated research organization has raised more capital.

Javara raised $9.43 million earlier this month from five investors, according to a company filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

In five years, the integrated research organization has raised more than $70 million. Its biggest fundraise to-date was in April 2022, when Javara landed $47 million – the second-most raised by a Triad startup in 2022.

At the time, Javara said it would use its $47 million to double its employees to almost 400 within two years. TBJ reported in October that the women-founded and -led company employs more than 250, of which nearly 50 are in the Triad.

Javara did not immediately return request for comment on staffing levels or what it will use its newest funds for.

Business NC reported that CEO Jennifer Byrne said the money would help expand its partnerships with its current health care partners and expand into more therapeutic areas of research. Byrne was named a TBJ Power Player in October for the second year in a row.

Earlier this fall, Javara debuted on the Inc. magazine Fast 5000 list. The only Triad company to crack the top 100, Javara landed at No. 94 with three-year revenue growth of 5.070%.

The company is operating in eight states, with its most recent addition thanks to a partnership with Nevada Health Centers. This partnership also made Javara the first clinical research organization to partner with a federally qualified health center.
