Icons Club, a startup fitness app from the founder of a Clearwater coworking space, has raised $5 million in seed capital.

The funding was awarded from a pitch competition at The Ring Workspaces, a coworking space. The capital will allow the startup to develop the app, market the brand, hire a team of employees and establish a growth strategy, according to a release.

Icons Club plans to be a subscription platform with tailored training programs from athletes and personal trainers. It will have classes and programs on sports like baseball, tennis and soccer, as well as improving technique and injury prevention.

Daniels Ikajevs is CEO of Icons and co-founder of The Ring Workspaces. He’s a serial entrepreneur and a real estate developer who owns several Clearwater properties.

The event saw a group of five companies at the coworking space pitch to investors, but the event participants and investors were not disclosed. Ikajevs also is investing in the app, he said.

“I feel very fortunate to have the ability to raise funds in a time where startups have seen funding dramatically drying up in the marketplace,” Ikajevs said in a statement.

Ikajevs has a background in boxing and fitness, which inspires many of the names and attributes behind his endeavors, including The Ring Workspaces and Icons Club, he said.

“The goal of The Ring was to build the world’s healthiest workspace, so it’s definitely our path,” Ikajevs said. “This, in many ways, resonates with the fitness app because it’s something that we absolutely are passionate about, and it felt like a natural extension for us just to build on what we already know.”

The Ring Workspaces LLC opened in 2019 after a $2 million investment, including funding from the city of Clearwater. The 18,000-square-foot space is oriented as a health and wellness-centered workstation, with sleep pods, moss-lined walls, toxic-free paint and yoga classes.
