St. Louis-based startup CuriMeta, which is focused on using health care data to help advance medical research, has added to its C-suite.

CuriMeta has hired Craig White as its chief data officer, a newly created role. White’s role will involve managing CuriMeta’s data and leading efforts to expand its use of the data in medical research, and push the company into "its next phase of growth," the startup said.

CuriMeta, which publicly launched operations in 2022, uses aggregated and de-identified patient data from health systems to create datasets that life science researchers and manufacturers can use to bring new therapeutics and treatments to market. It describes itself as a “real-world health data company” and last year raised $6 million in a seed funding round led by BJC HealthCare and Washington University School of Medicine. CuriMeta has 15 full-time employees.

"With a highly experienced team and market-leading capabilities, CuriMeta is quickly establishing itself as one of the leading providers of data for life sciences research and development solutions," White said in a news release. "In conjunction with leading health systems and academic medical centers, CuriMeta provides a compliant and full view of the entire patient journey, which will in turn accelerate the drug R&D process, reduce costs, and get life-enhancing therapies to patients sooner.”

White joins CuriMeta after having most recently been chief data officer for Orion Health, a healthcare company based in Auckland, New Zealand. Before that, he was senior vice president and general manager at ConcertAI, a Cambridge, Massachusetts-based health care data company that last year raised $150 million in a funding round it said valued its business at $1.9 billion. White has a bachelor's degree in electronic engineering from the University of Auckland and a doctorate in health policy from Harvard University.

"Craig is a strategic thinker and highly regarded leader in the industry," CuriMeta CEO Davis Walp said in a statement. "As we continue to partner with life science researchers, academic medical centers and health systems, clinical AI companies, and clinical research organizations, Craig's deep expertise and networks will not only amplify our capabilities, but also transform the use of real-world data. I am excited to welcome him to CuriMeta to help drive our next phase of growth."
