Seattle-based e-commerce startup Fabric has hired Stacy Saal, who spent more than 12 years at Amazon, as Fabric's first chief operating officer.

Saal led Amazon Prime Air as general manager and COO of the division for almost three years. According to Fabric, she also held the roles of global program leader of Amazon Fresh and general manager of Prime Now.

“I am excited to join the Fabric team and re-enter the world of commerce during this period of retail transformation, as brands compete to provide differentiated customer shopping experiences across multiple channels,” Saal said in a news release. “Additionally, I look forward to working alongside one of the most experienced digital commerce teams in existence."

Saal left Amazon in 2020. Since then, she has been the COO at Babylon, a digital health care company headquartered in London. Earlier in her career, Saal held roles at Bank of America, Williams-Sonoma and Levi Strauss, according to her LinkedIn page. Fabric said in a release she begins with the company March 1.

Fabric was founded in 2017. The company allows brands to customize their online shopping sites without making complicated back-end changes. Fabric had a big year in 2021 that included a $43 million Series A round in February and a $100 million Series B round in July. Its clients include GNC and BuildDirect.

Saal is one of multiple former Amazon execs to join Fabric recently. The startup in September hired Val Rupp, who spent almost seven years at Amazon, as its chief people officer. Chandra Shekar Neti, Fabric's vice president of software engineering, joined the company last fall after spending 14 years at Amazon. Fabric Chief Technology Officer Umer Sadiq spent more than 11 years at Amazon, according to his LinkedIn page.

"I know Stacy will be an exceptional resource for helping Fabric scale while staying aligned with customer demand,” said CEO Faisal Masud in a news release. “Stacy’s decades of retail experience and success operationalizing next-generation capabilities will prepare Fabric for its next phase of growth."
