Sabya Das, a former partner with Folsom venture capital firm Moneta Ventures, has been named president and chief operating officer of video editing platform VideoVerse, which is opening its U.S. headquarters in the Sacramento region.

VideoVerse's primary team is based in Mumbai, with its workforce dispersed globally.

"VideoVerse's artificial intelligence platform uniquely disrupts how video content is created and shared in the sports, news and entertainment sectors," said Das, in a news release.

Das was a part of the founding team of Moneta Ventures, which in 2021 invested in a $11.7 million early funding round by VideoVerse. At that point, Das joined the VideoVerse board of directors.

In May last year, VideoVerse raised a $46.8 million round of financing led by India-based A91 Partners, New York-based Alpha Wave Global and internet billionaire Binny Bansal.

VideoVerse software allows customers to find highlights during live broadcasts and streams, and then quickly turn those into short-form videos, which can be shared to some 30 platforms. Its customers include content producers, event organizers and sports teams and players. The technology cuts the amount of editing time needed to create highlights.

The technology addresses the interest in short-form video-on-the-go that users seek on multiple platforms.

Moneta is still an investor in VideoVerse, said Lokesh Sikaria, Moneta's founding partner. "I think they will do very well. Sabya is very well qualified," Sikaria said.

VideoVerse technology "propels the media industry forward. Having worked closely with this exceptional team as an investor and board member over the years, I’m incredibly excited to continue this journey alongside them and feel fortunate to have the opportunity to shape the company’s future trajectory," Das said.

VideoVerse also announced Prateek Sharma will be its new chief strategy officer, and will lead the establishment of the company’s Sacramento headquarters as its primary American office. Sharma worked for six years at Sequoia Capital India, partnering with a variety of technology companies. Representatives of VideoVerse couldn't immediately be reached to say where the office will be.

Das earned a bachelor's degree from the University of California Berkeley in cognitive science and computational modeling.

In 2017, Das was recognized on the Sacramento Business Journal's 40 Under 40 list of rising professionals. He was 25 at the time.
