Ocean State Update: The biggest Rhode Island tech and startup news from December

In early December, the nonprofit Tech Collective announced it would be shutting down at the end of the year, citing declining revenues, Providence Business News reported.

Feast & Fettle, a Providence-based meal service company, has acquired the Boston home meal delivery business Fresh City Kitchen. According to PRN, the purchase will allow the RI-based company to expand into the greater-Boston area.

The market for Warehouse space is booming in Rhode Island. After Amazon has grabbed headlines for its plans to build a massive robotics-enabled fulfillment center in Johnston, Coast to Coast Fulfillment Inc. just completed a $2 million expansion and now has 108,000 square feet of space with more than a dozen loading docks and several drive-in truck bays on its 20-acre campus off Route 102.

Middletown-based SEACORP, a leading provider of engineering services and technology to the United States Navy, announced that it had acquired Jacksonville, Florida-based Analysis, Design & Diagnostics, Inc. in a private transaction.

Just a few weeks ago, the University of Rhode Island signed a contract with Automatic Laundry, a laundry service provider to the college and university market in the Northeast, to launch LaundryConnect Pay app at the RI college.

Hoping to turn stock prices around, KVH Industries, a Middletown-based maritime satellite provider, has announced the launch of satellite connectivity services to allow vessels to use the company's connectivity while operating in Indian territorial waters.

Pangea Logistics, based in Newport, RI, was recently downgraded from “hold” to ‘sell’ by Zack’s Investment Research. The Company provides logistics services to a broad base of industrial customers who require the transportation of a wide variety of dry bulk cargoes.

Recently, Yamaha Motor Corporation announced that it is planning to acquire Siren Marine, a Newport-based manufacturer of marine-based IoT (Internet of Things) solutions.
