The Technology Association of Oregon unveiled new branding intended to mark the tech industry advocate's next phase.

The new logo is meant to be an evolution from the group’s previous look, which was dominated by neon colors. The last logo stemmed from TAO’s creation in 2012 when the organization changed its name from the Software Association of Oregon.

“We’ve moved beyond the need for bright colors to stand out,” said President and CEO Skip Newberry in a written statement. “Moving forward, we want our work in education, policy advocacy and community engagement to speak for itself.”

Earlier this year, Newberry, who has been at the helm of TAO for the last 12 years, outlined the group’s recent evolution as it works to help the industry emerge from the pandemic along with priorities for the year.

The new branding was done by Portland-based design agency Opus Creative and also includes a redesigned website.

“Our logo and brand felt outdated, not fully capturing the sophistication and breadth of our current work and ambitions,” said Tim Winner, chief operating officer of TAO, in a written statement. Coming out of the pandemic other organizations in town have either shut down or shifted priorities and work they had been doing, especially around startups or diversifying the industry, have fallen to TAO.

“We wanted a brand that mirrors our serious engagement with industry leaders and our significant contributions to the tech sector in the Silicon Forest,” Winner said.

TAO has more than 500 members across Oregon and Southwest Washington.
