The founders of cybersecurity startup Orca Security are shuffling their roles in a move designed to better align with their talents.

Co-founder and previous Chief Product Officer Gil Geron is moving into the CEO position. Previous CEO Avi Shua is moving into the newly created role of chief innovation officer. Shua will also remain on the board, the company said in a news release.

Both Geron and Shua are based in Israel. However, the company headquarters is in Portland. The headquarters was established here in December 2021 because the remote company discovered it had its largest grouping of employees in Portland.

The company has more than 450 people globally, with 20 based out of the headquarters. The company has several open positions in Portland.

Orca developed a new way to secure enterprise cloud infrastructure that it says reduces the complexity and the time it takes to secure environments. The Orca platform evaluates cloud configuration, then identifies and prioritizes risk areas. Its compatible cloud providers are Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure while its customers include News Corp., Autodesk and Unity Technologies.

The company has gained traction with customers, industry analysts and investors.

“From day one at Orca, my passion has always been solving real-world cloud security problems for customers and enabling their success,” said Geron in a written statement. “At the same time, a core part of our DNA has been to push the boundaries of how cloud security should look, which is Avi’s passion — as proven by his SideScanning patent achievement. Aligning our strengths with our roles in the company ensures that Orca not only is the best cloud security platform in the world but also the most loved.”

In 2021 the company announced a $550 million Series C investment.
