How Portland's Torq will use its $50M round

Portland cybersecurity startup Torq has continued to grow since raising $50 million in December.

That growth includes a new Pearl District office.

While the company wouldn’t specify how many people are in the office, it occupies the entire fifth floor of a building at Northwest Glisan Street and Park Avenue, said Matt Damkroger, Torq's vice president of enterprise sales and one of the executives based in this office.

Company headcount has increased 150% since the funding round. Last December, the company said it had 10 employees in Portland and planned to at least double that this year.

Torq makes automation software for security teams. It’s a no-code automation platform, meaning users can build automated workflows across security infrastructure and communication tools no matter their expertise.

This helps security teams speed threat response and remediation.

The company’s position as a security tool has helped it weather the current macro economic uncertainties, said Damkroger. Security threats remain top of mind for executives: It’s an area that isn’t likely to be cut in cost saving measures. Torq’s product becomes even more important when trying to do more with current teams.

“The need for security is not going away. It’s growing,” he said. “In these economic times, companies are trying to do more with less. Torq and our automation helps and makes us more valuable (to customers).”

Since the December funding round the company has logged 385% customer growth while revenue has increased by 360%, he said.

The company operates through a distributed team. In addition to the Portland headquarters, the company has offices in New York Tel Aviv, Israel, the United Kingdom, Spain and Taiwan.

The company has also been hiring at all levels. It hired Yaron Bartov, previously at Wix.com and GuardiCore, as CFO; and Aner Izraeli, previously at Itezer and Outbrain, as head of security.

The company has several roles open on its website. Portland is home to its marketing and go-to-market leaders.
