Interested in checking out the latest cohort of Portland Incubator Experiment startups? Head over to the organization’s YouTube channel.
Today is PIE Demo Day, and in the pre-Covid times it would mean an afternoon or morning spent at an event space watching startups pitch their ideas. However, the event has shifted online for the last couple of years and now it’s videos.
The latest batch — 19 of them — are on Youtube.
For regular readers there are some familiar names:
- UrbanForm, an online tool that gives site-specific zoning information on parcels of land for architects, developers and urban planners.
- Radious, which is like an Airbnb for meeting space allowing homeowners to rent extra space to people looking for meeting or workspace.
- Shilling, which turns your phone screen time, and maybe excessive phone habits, into passive investing.
- Momentum, a web-based personal planning app to help users accomplish their goals.
There are also plenty of new companies to check out. Everything from a better prosthetic arm socket, to compostable tableware from palm leaves; to modular interiors for building retrofits.
PIE started as a co-working space in 2009. It became an important part of the city’s startup ecosystem and was a key player in creating the software startup community when the city was still better known for hardware. It has since grown to include other types of startups. The group works closely with other organizations that also support founders such as Oregon Entrepreneurs Network, Oregon Biosciences, Built Oregon and TIE Oregon.
The 2022 Demo Day videos cover three of the PIE programs: the original PIE that skews toward software and tech enabled startups; PIE Shop, which works with companies that make physical products; and Slice of PIE, which is a lighter touch program for companies that are a bit further along. It also includes this year's experiment of companies aimed at addressing housing needs.
If you want even more PIE startups, the group’s consumer focused program will be at the Built Oregon Festival on Oct. 21.
