Portland-based camping app The Dyrt is highlighting one of its unusual benefits as it looks to attract candidates for the 30 new positions the fast-growing company is recruiting.

The Dyrt is hiring across roles including developers, marketing, product and community management. The company has built a nationwide community around its tools to help campers find and review campsites and plan trips. Last year, it raised $4 million from investors.

The company is touting its employee bonus program that pays people to go camping and use the app. The $400 bonus is for a field report that goes over what worked and what didn’t work while using the tools.

“Many of the people who work at The Dyrt during the week are going camping on the weekends," said co-founder and CEO Kevin Long, in a written statement. "What might have seemed like a good idea from user testing in the office may play out in unexpected ways when on the road looking for a campground or reviewing a camping experience. We are happy to pay employees to camp because getting that perspective from our staff is invaluable."

In fact, Long and co-founder Sarah Smith spent time on the road this year running their company while living in their van and using the tools, as reported by Geekwire.

The Dyrt currently has more than 30 employees and boasts a workforce that is 50% women, according to the company. The company saw a dramatic increase in paid users when it introduced The Dyrt Pro last year.

The company has more than 4 million user generated reviews and trips of U.S. campgrounds.
